VLAK

Give your space a new surface.

Painting and renovation with care for colour, material and every edge.

Interior and exterior painting · Wall finishing · Renovation

The same living room after a clean finish: quiet walls, clear light and a composed edge.

Before

After

Compare the room before and after the painting. The same living room in a muted, tired state: yellowed walls, little contrast. The same living room after a clean finish: quiet walls, clear light and a composed edge.

A new colour changes more than a wall.

Light falls differently. Wood settles or steps forward. VLAK treats preparation, colour advice, execution and handover as one controlled process — so the plane still holds, even at the skirting.

Work

Rooms that have found their tone.

Interior painting and frames

Townhouse in Leiden

The salon had too much sheen and a yellow undertone. We flattened the walls, repaired the reveals and lacquered the sliding doors in a quieter green.

Clay · matte emulsion, timber in deep olive

Townhouse salon with matte, warm walls and olive-green timber doors.

Wall finishing and ceilings

Apartment in Rotterdam

The existing latex was failing at the outer wall. That coat was taken off, the wall repaired, then built up again — including the niche in a deeper tone.

Chalk · off-white with a cool grey-green niche

Rotterdam apartment with quiet chalk-coloured walls and a restrained colour plane in the niche.
Detail of a painted niche with a sharp, taped edge.

Kitchen, beams and repair

Farmhouse in Woerden

The kitchen asked for quiet, not another colour plane. We kept the walls still, repaired the joints at the timber and let marble and oak do the work.

Stone-white emulsion · timber and enamel in the same family

Bright kitchen with stone-white walls, a marble worktop and composed transitions into timber.
Detail of a stone-white wall with timber crates as a wall plane, tight against the emulsion.

Studio, doors and an acoustic plane

Office studio in Utrecht

One wall carries the room. The rest stays light so drawings and materials can breathe. Doors and skirtings in the same stone white, without a break in sheen.

Cobalt on one end wall · the rest in stone white

Office studio with a deep-blue end wall and otherwise quiet, light walls.
Clean transition between a cobalt plane and the adjoining stone-white wall.

Services

Four planes, one method.

Approach

The edge first, then the colour.

01

First conversation

A short conversation about the room, what you want to see, and when it can happen. We do not promise a date we cannot keep.

02

Survey & colour advice

We come by, look at light, substrate and existing coats, and set a colour proposal on the actual plane — not only on a swatch.

03

Preparation

Masking, sanding, filling, dusting. The slow part. The part that later keeps the finish still.

04

Execution

Coats in the right order, drying time respected, edges cut in. No hurry over a still-wet primer.

05

Handover

Details together, touch-ups where needed, the workplace clean. Then a clear close, without loose ends.

A quiet room with one large plaster wall. The chair, lamp, plant, door and floor stay as they are.

Colour

A wall is a plane, not a sample pot.

Choose a family. The wall takes the tone — as a starting point, not an order. Light, substrate and sheen decide how the colour later falls in the room.

Chalk

Light, mineral, a little cool in the morning.

Screen colours differ from physical paint. This is an inspiration tool, not a precise mixer.

Working agreement

What you may expect in advance.

A clear quote first

A written estimate of work, material and planning. No surprise on the last day.

Careful preparation

Sanding, degreasing, priming, repairing. The finish coat is only as clean as this part.

Professional materials

Paints and primers that belong to the substrate. We name brands in the quote, not as decoration here.

A tidy, protected workplace

Floors, furniture and ironmongery are covered. Dust is managed, not apologised for afterwards.

Clear planning

You know which days we are there, and what happens that day. Changes are reported.

Check at handover

We walk the edges, coverage and junctions. What is not right is corrected before we leave.

Voices

Three rooms, three voices.

The green salon was a gamble on paper. On the wall it holds. Especially the frames: no runs, no sloppy junction into the plaster.

M. de Vries

Leiden — townhouse

They took the old latex off instead of going over it. That saved us a second round in two years.

S. Hassan

Rotterdam — apartment

A short update every morning, and the kitchen was dust-free by the end of the day. The terracotta wall is quieter than I dared hope.

Woerden — farmhouse

Atmospheric shot of preparation: masking tape along a clean line, a half-finished plane, no posing crew.

About VLAK

A small studio, a clean plane.

VLAK is set up as a compact painting studio: small enough to see the edges ourselves, large enough to put a whole house on a controlled plan. The copy here is deliberately interchangeable — for one painter or a small team.

We work for residents, architects and small commercial rooms. The standard is the same: the substrate first, then the colour, then the quiet of a well-cut line.

There are no invented certificates here, no founding years and no review score. What counts is in the quote and on the wall.
